Hi everyone,

Kelly and I are deeply grateful for your unwavering support and prayers regarding Kelly’s medical condition. Your kindness and prayers mean the world to us.

In case you missed it the first time, Kelly has been experiencing new and nearly daily headaches since mid January.  Initially, she attributed these headaches to stress, but a recent MRI revealed a lesion on her brain. The doctors believe it may be due to inflammation (possibly from an infection) or a low-grade, non-aggressive tumor. While they consider it more likely to be a tumor, there is still some uncertainty among the specialists reviewing the scans.

Update

We plan to leave Kenya on May 4th and will stay near Matt’s sister in Lakeland, FL. She will help Zeke finish the school year as she homeschools him along with her boys. On May 9th, we will meet with a neuro-oncologist at Tampa General Hospital (TGH), who will conduct another MRI and potentially other testing to reassess Kelly’s condition.  He agreed that it would be beneficial to do further testing before a biopsy is done. Thank you to all who reached out with contacts! We were able to have a phone consultation with the specialist, and have been very grateful to the staff at TGH in their willingness to work with us. Also thanks to the body of believers, we have been able to find affordable housing in Lakeland for the month of May, and into June and July if needed. God will provide every step of the way.

How Can You Support Us?

  1. Pray - Please, please continue to pray for Kelly. Our prayer has been 1 Peter 5:10. She says that since we sent out our first update, she has experienced God’s supernatural and surpassing peace, and we can FEEL your prayers.

  2. Financial Support - Additionally, with this unexpected situation, we do have some additional expenses that are outside of our normal budget. Our insurance here in Kenya does not cover any services in the U.S., but we are blessed to be a part of Samaritan Ministries, a Christian health care sharing program. They will help us pay for a good portion of any medical expenses, but we will need to pay the copays and other doctor consultations fees. We will also incur additional housing, transportation, and living expenses that exceed our normal budget for missionary work in Kenya. We are truly grateful for the generosity you have shown us during our transition from our previous mission to our current work with Serving Workers for the Harvest (SWH), so please do not feel pressured to assist us. If, however, you feel led to help us in this way financially, we have arranged with SWH to increase our budget for the added expenses related to our time in the USA.

God Bless,
