Kuza - "to grow" in Swahili

Digital Discipleship Materials for African Youth

We have digital discipleship materials for youth because 78% of Kenya is youth aged and under. 98% of Kenyans own a phone, and over 50% own a smartphone. The highest percentage of the population that owns a smartphone is youth. Also, if a youth does not own a smartphone, that is the first thing that they will buy. Another interesting thing is that Kenya is in the top five of internet usage in Africa. All this is to say that it makes sense for us to have digital discipleship materials for youth in Kenya. Kuza is not just about Kenya but other African countries as well, though our reach is mostly focused here. Kuza has four main arms of digital discipleship materials they are blogs, videos, podcasts, and our app. See them below.

Learn About Kuza

Why we developed Kuza

Our goal for the teaching side of our ministry is to equip churches to reach youth for Christ. Training pastors in conferences and seminaries have been successful in starting youth ministry in many churches. However, we received feedback from many pastors that they felt they needed help in maintaining their youth ministry's spiritual growth. We thought that a smartphone app, along with other digital resources, was the easiest, quickest, and cheapest means of distribution. To respond to the needs, we developed a team of local Kenyans to produce content for digital platforms for youth and young adults in an African context. We chose the name "Kuza" because it means "to be nurtured" or "to grow" in Swahili.

Kuza Writing Team

Kuza's content development team is made up of youth pastors and people in youth ministry from gospel preaching churches with the heart of helping youth grow spiritually. Kuza desires to create content that is in an African context. Lots of content for youth and youth ministry come from the West, but they are not entirely relevant to local needs. Kuza desires to change that. We have a strong passion for seeing youth grow in their salvation, not just on Sunday but through a daily relationship with Christ.

Kuza Stats

As of 2023, we are reaching as high as 300,000 people per week through our videos, podcasts, blogs, and app. We are humbled that the Lord would use us in this way. We’re also playing the audio form of our podcast on seven different radio stations in Kenya and video format on five different TV stations, enabling us to reach 3 million people weekly. Kuza also has access between our partners and ourselves to reach a little more than five million people via social media.
